Secondhand smoke. More than
annoying. A Public Health Emergency.
Tobacco-free schools
The Pro Children’s Act of 1994
and 2001 prohibits smoking in all school buildings. Schools that adopt 24/7
tobacco-free grounds policies are further protecting students by eliminating
their exposure to secondhand smoke. These policies also assist in changing the
norms about tobacco use at school and in the community and lead to a reduction
in youth and employee smoking rates over time.
