Eagle Creek Clean-up Project: Onsite Wastewater Incentive Grants

In order to reduce the amount of sewage entering Eagle Creek through Ten Mile Creek and Arnolds Creek, a septic repair fund has been established. More than two-thirds of the money for the Eagle Creek Straight Pipe Abatement and Education Project is dedicated to this septic repair fund, called the Onsite Wastewater Incentive Grant.

The way it works is this: If a homeowner in the Ten Mile Creek or Arnolds Creek area has a septic problem that has a high impact on the water of those creeks, the homeowner may be eligible for funds to pay for repair or replacement of septic system components. The septic problem could be a failing system, an overflow pipe, or a straight pipe.

How to apply: You can visit the Health Department's District Office at 610 Medical Village Drive, Edgewood, Ky., or the Grant County Health Center at 234 Barnes Road, Williamstown, Ky., and fill out an application, or you can call 859.341.4151 and ask for an application to be sent to you.

After your application is completed and reviewed:

  1. An inspector will visit your place to determine if you are eligible, and if so, will perform the necessary repair site evaluation to determine the specifications that must be met for a repair or replacement.

  2. Once you receive your repair site evaluation report, you contact at least two certified septic system installers to visit your property and draw up proposals and estimates for work that will satisfy the specifications on the report.

  3. Once you have at least two bids, these are turned into the Health Department. The lowest, best bid that meets the required specifications will be accepted, at which time you can arrange for the installer to do your work.

  4. When the work has been inspected and final approval given, the installer will be paid directly by the Health Department.
