Screenings are available at each of the Health Department’s county health centers. Eligible women will receive a $10 gift card. The program is coordinated by the Health Department and the Northern Kentucky Women’s Cancer Coalition.

Who

To be eligible for the screening, women must be:

  • Between the ages of 40 and 64

  • Have an income below 250 percent of the federal poverty guidelines (currently $27,075 annually for a single-person household and $55,125 annually for a four-person household)

  • Not be enrolled in a private health insurance plan, Medicare or Medicaid

If you do not meet the qualifications for Prevention Pays, assistance may be available. Please call Lisa Heck at 859.363.2010 for details.

When

Women have the option of being screened in one-stop or two:

One stop: On designated Prevention Pays days, eligible women can have their annual exams, including a pap smear, pelvic exam and clinical breast exam performed by a nurse practitioner, as well as receive a mammogram in the mobile mammography unit from St. Elizabeth Health Care, which will be parked outside the health center. Appointments are requested for these events. The 2012 schedule of Prevention Pays days is as follows:

  • 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. on Friday, January 27, and 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. on Friday, July 27, at the Kenton County Health Center, 2002 Madison Ave., Covington, Ky., 859.431.3345.

  • 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. on Friday, February 17, and 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. on Friday, August 3, at the Boone County Health Center, 7505 Burlington Pike, Florence, Ky., 859.363.2060.

  • 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. on Friday, March 2, and 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. on Friday, September 14, at the Grant County Health Center, 234 Barnes Road, Williamstown, Ky., 859.824.5074.

  • 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. on Friday, May 4, and 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. on Friday, November 9, at the Campbell County Health Center, 1098 Monmouth St., Newport, Ky., 859.431.1704.

Two stops: The Health Department offers daily appointments for annual women’s health exams, including a pap smear, pelvic exam and clinical breast exam performed by a nurse practitioner, at each of its county health centers. Call the health center most convenient for you to schedule an appointment.

At the annual exam appointment, you will be given a voucher for a mammogram. You can then call St. Elizabeth Healthcare to schedule your appointment for a mammogram.
