HEALTH EDUCATOR / SENIOR HEALTH EDUCATOR

 

The Community Health Promotion Department has a full-time position available for a Health Educator or Senior Health Educator depending on the level of experience and credentials. The person in the position will focus on assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating tobacco prevention and cessation programs in Northern Kentucky communities.

 

Status:

Full-time, non-exempt position.

Pay Rate:

$16.65 to $24.98 (starting pay $16.65 to $18.25):  Health Educator

$19.27 to $28.93 (starting pay $19.27 to $21.12):  Senior Health Educator

Grade:

32:  Senior Health Educator

29:  Health Educator

Reports to:

Health Education Manager

 

Primary duties will include, but are not limited to:

·          Create annual program plans and budget in response to assessed community needs.

·          Evaluate effectiveness of approach to tobacco cessation/prevention.

·          Serve as a consultant to targeted communities to assist in the development of tobacco reduction programs.

·          Conduct personal and telephone interviews in schools, worksites, and restaurants.

·          Assist communities with positive policy development that prevents and discourages tobacco use.

·          Provide training to professionals on issues related to tobacco prevention and cessation and secondhand smoke.

·          Provide technical assistance to communities and serve as a community resource on tobacco issues.

·          Provide direct education regarding tobacco use, prevention, cessation and secondhand smoke.

·          Network with local organizations and serve on, chair, or staff committees and coalitions.

·          Advocate for laws and legislative issues pertaining to tobacco reduction.

·          Develop and implement innovative and promising programs in targeted communities (worksites, schools, community groups) to reduce tobacco use and promote healthy lifestyles.

·          Create reports, articles, brochures, other educational materials to promote programs and concepts.

·          Employ or develop needs assessment, and evaluation tools and strategies.

·          Assist other health education team members in specific outreach efforts.

·          Maintain current with relevant literature and research.

·          Perform other duties as needed.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

Health Educator: Bachelor’s degree in health education, education, social or behavioral science or related field required; no experience required. CHES preferred. 

 

Senior Health Educator: Same as Health Educator plus 2 years related experience.  (Masters degree in the field may substitute for one year work experience).
